Battery Dangers |
- Sealed lead acid battery contains sulphuric acid and large quantity of lead.
- Due to the battery structure is 'non-spillable; only exposure to internal component in the case of breakage or extreme heat may be harzardous.
- Avoid tightening or removing cables while charging or discharging battery. The generation of spark, static electricity discharges or open flames can cause a hygrogen explosion inside the battery and ruin the battery cells.
- Do not use SLA battery together with different types of batteries, such as nickel - cadmium and dry cells batteries, as it may cause combustion and bodily burn injury.
- Although very rare, but more common are hydrogen explosions. Hyrogen is generated when the battery is overcharged. Hyrogen gas may accumulate at the top of a battery. If this gas is exposed to flame or spark, it can explode.
- Avoid connecting postive and negative terminals of the SLA battery with metallic wire or object. In addition, keep away metal tools, such as screw drivers, spanners, torque wrenches shall be properly insulated with vinly tape or other insulating materials.
- Short circuiting the positive and negative terminals of the battery can cause burn injuiries, damage to the storage battery and trigger explosion.
- Keep away from all ignition and high temperature sources.
- Do not store battery in an unventilated and enclosed space. Doing so can cause an explosion, fire, equipment damage and bodily injury.
